GEORGIOS BOUDALIS

Georgios is a member of the Editorial Board of the Multi-Lingual Bibliography Network of the European Research Centre for Book and Paper Conservation-Restoration, Horn, Austria (since 2010), a member of the Editorial Board of the Annual Conference of the Union of Greek Conservators, and of ICOM.

His conservation work portfolio includes the full range of procedures from preventive to interventive conservation. He has engaged in several projects in the conservation of both art on paper, and manuscripts, in public and private collections in Greece and abroad. Some such projects are the St Catherine’s Monastery Library, the monasteries of Mount Athos, the Aristotle University Library, and The Greek Institute of Venice.

KONSTANTINOS CHOULIS

Konstantinos is Associate Professor in the Department of Conservation of Antiquities & Works of Art, School of Applied Arts & Culture. University of West Attica, Athens, Greece. He holds a PhD in the History of the Book, University of London, on the “History of the Binding and Conservation of the Greek Manuscripts of the Fondo Antico in the Vatican Library, (15th – 20th centuries)”. In addition to being visiting professor at several institutions, he has also been Senior Lecturer in the History of Early Bookbinding Techniques at Scuola Europea di formazione specialistica per conservatori – restauratori di Beni Librari, (European School for Conservators-Restorers of Book Materials), Spoleto, Italy.

From 2000-2004 he was the Head of Conservation at the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (Vatican Library). From 2011-2013 he was the President of the International Institute of Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works – Hellenic Branch. More recently, he has been the scientific coordinator of the project “Action planning for moving library and archival material: The case of National Library of Greece” financed by the Research Committee of the Athens University of Applied Sciences.

He has published numerous academic papers, including extensive authorship on Byzantine bindings.

FLAVIO MARZO

Flavio was born in Susa near Turin (Italy). He now lives in Cambridge where he is the Head of Conservation at the Cambridge Conservation Consortium Studio (Corpus Christi College). Previously, he has worked for the British library since 2005, and became an ICON accredited conservator in 2012.

During his career, he has worked in prominent institutions such as the Vatican Library, the libraries of Queens and Magdalene Colleges, Oxford, and as a private conservator/restorer in the Benedictine Monastery of Novalesa, Italy. He set up the conservation studio for the British Library/Qatar Foundation Partnership Digitisation Project. He has also been involved in several conservation projects in Italy , Greece, and Egypt as conservator, consultant and teacher.

He is presently part of the boards of the ‘The Society for the Preservation of Rare Books’, and on the panel of the ‘Frederick Bearman Research Grant’. He the author of several articles published in journals, books, and on the web.

MASSIMILIANO MASSERA

Massimiliano, Restorer of Cultural  Heritage, trained at the school of higher education “Institute for Conservation and Restoration  “(ISCR) and the “National polygraph institute”(IPZS), both sited in  Rome.

He works as a freelancer, deals with planning, restoration and conservation of Cultural Heritage to public and private institutions.

His work is mainly directed at the recovery and restoration of archaeological and historical metals, glass, organic materials and ceramics.

GIOVANNI PAGANI

Giovanni is an Italian accredited conservator. After graduating in Greek Palaeography from the Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza”, Italy, he got an M.A. in Book Conservation from the Scuola Europea di formazione specialistica per conservatori – restauratori di Beni Librari (European School for Conservators-Restorers of Book Materials) Spoleto, Italy. He manages a private conservation studio, Re.Li.C., in Rome, working for national and international institutions in Italy and abroad, such as the Vatican Library, Italian Dioceses and Monasteries, and international libraries and archives within Cultural Institutes.

Giovanni has worked as conservation teacher in Rome and Salerno Universities, and for private institutions specialising in the conservation of historical archival and stationary bindings. He is the conservator librarian and archivist of the Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria del Pilastrello in Lendinara, and worked for the Archives of the Amalfi Diocese in Amalfi, and of the “Parrocchia della Papale Basilica di San Pietro” in Rome. He has been working for the Library and Archive of the Santa Casa for the Delegazione Pontificia in Loreto for the past 12 years, and for the Benedettucci Library and the Diocese Archive in Recanati for the past 5.

He is the Director of the ‘Recanati e Restauro’.

NICOLA PAGANI

Nicola Pagani has a masters degree in conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, at the Italian Institute for Conservation and Restoration (ISCR). He attended the school of the State Printing Works at the State Mint (Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca della Stato). He specializes in conservation of ceramic, metals and alloys, glass and organic materials, with a master degree dissertation based on the conservation of an Etruscan chariot with the development of several philological reconstructions using the 3D technologies.

He works as a freelance conservator and trainer for Italian institutions and museums and in foreign countries such as Sultanate of Oman and Republic of Iraq. He has taken part in official missions for the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, as a trainer for the technicians of the National Museum of Iraq in Baghdad.

During the last year, he has been working in collaboration with the ISCR in various conservation projects concerning the use of 3D technologies.
